Once, I blogged about selfishness and selflessness. I did so because of a lesson I learnt. The two words are opposites, but are used incorrectly. As a society we believe that being selfish is one of the worst qualities a person could possess. However, most discoveries and steps forward in humanity are results of selfishness. Being selfish does not always mean being greedy, it means putting your self first, speaking your mind. Whilst if someone is selfless they are letting people walk right over them. If it came down to it, the selfless person would sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the group. They would die because that's what others want and expect from them. They might not be happy about it but they would do it. If it came down to it, the selfish person might not let others walk right over them but they would be happy to die for you. Being selfish does not make you a horrible person. It does not mean that you have no heart or soul. It does not mean that you do not care.
So essentially, my message is this. Don't let others walk over you. Stand up for yourself sometimes. Because, you're important too. You're no less important than anyone else on this planet.

Wow.
This is so true.
I can't really find the words to say how meaningful this is.
